Inspired by a visit to the seaweed baths in Enniscrone, Co Sligo, the Soak group was conceived by husband and wife team Dermot Devine and Claire Dickinson in the year 2000.
In 2006 Soak Seaweed Baths opened its doors to the public. The rebirth of a very old concept which most of this part of Ireland had long forgotten, seaweed bathing is a centuries old tradition, with its roots in the rural farming communities. Seaweed was and still is used as a soil conditioner, farmers handling the seaweed found the hacks and calluses on their hands got better when using it and so the tradition of bathing began. Soak is the only seaweed bathhouse in the UK and also the only one on the east coast of Ireland.
In 2007 Snooze was launched, with the opening of the first apartment to the public. A two bed four star sea front Victorian conversion with period features in every room. With the Mountains of Mourne literally in the back garden and the sea just on the other side of the road, a more idyllic location would be hard to imagine. In 2008 Snooze gained an additional three apartments with the conversion of the sister building next door, two of these have two bedrooms, and one has one bedroom, all are four star with sea views and period features.
2008 also saw the launch of Soothe treatment rooms. Soothe has three fully equipped rooms where we offer an enormous variety of treatments catering for all tastes.
In 2009 Sip Tea Rooms were opened, the last piece of the jigsaw. Sip offers a great place to relax with a cuppa after a relaxing treatment or bath.
